On the Boulevard
Moe Dalitz may be best remembered for bringing Vegas the Desert Inn...with, um, some help...and although the Inn may be long gone, his legacy lives on in another of his projects, the Boulevard Mall on Maryland Parkway. A palm-lined drive lures you in to explore its elegant interiors. Opened in 1968, it was the happening place for generations of young Las Vegans for many years, and the largest mall in Southern Nevada until it was eclipsed by the Fashion Show Mall in the early 21st century. Today it is hanging on while seemingly every casino on the Strip wants to add a pedestrian shopping mall to its property; its utlimate fate may be tied to those of the big-name stores that anchor it, the Sears, Macy's and JC Penneys of the world.
